Does that make sense? I like to say adjacent with subject that might be sort of related, but I don't know if people get it. It's like the subject is close to another topic, but not actually there. I don't know, it doesn't really make sense, but I say it anyways.
I do not have an outfit post for today, but I'm feeling rather wound up and felt like writing a little bit. My friends all just headed home from a fun and full day. My day started when I woke up an hour later than I planned, and had to run to meet my old japanese teacher and a bunch of other students for lunch. I went with Justina and Amanda. (I mention them a lot on this blog, as they are my best buds, but they are sometimes just called J and A. This is not an attempt at anonymity, rather we often call each other by our first initial, as do many of our friends. Together, we are JAR.) After three hours of chatting and eating pho (yeah, didn't go to a japanese restaurant, strangely enough), we went to Amanda's, baked cookies, and waited to hear from some of our other friends about hanging/band practice. Hung out, no band practice, went out to eat again (this time thai) and then ended up back at my place watching videos. Eventually we got sort of inspired and started making this silly little video ourselves. It's ridiculous, all about a boy who basically plays the game "hot lava" (remember? you can't touch the floor because it's lava so you have to jump from furniture to furniture) all the time. I wish I had a pictures from when we were filming, as my friends (it was all dudes except me and J, since Amanda went home before we started this project) are quite attractive boys. Actually, Tommy, the hot lava guy, has been posted on cuteboysmakenervous.com
You know, actually I have a few pictures from lunch today. While I'm not wearing anything especially exciting, I might as well post them.
That is most of the people at the lunch, JAR are all making peace signs, and my japanese teacher is giving herself bunny ears.
sweatshirt - american apparel, tshirt - urban outfitters, scarf - vintage
And there is (left to right): Amanda, Sensei, Justina, and me. Aren't my friends and teacher cute? Amanda does preppy style really well, Sensei is just kawaii (cute), Justina does a really good mix of super cute and kind of badass, and then there's me. I don't know how I'd describe my style. I guess I don't really know what I want it to be and that's why I have this blog.
I also have a picture from yesterday, before I met up with my dad. I headed into Seattle to see him, and we went to this cafe/bar where a bunch of guys from the Last Exit (it was a coffee shop my dad used to frequent when I was young, it does not exist any longer) meet up every Friday. They're really funny guys, weird old men who play cards and make dirty jokes all afternoon. Sadly, my favorite guy, the man who runs the UFO hotline (he also just ran for state congress) was not there. On the plus side, the bartender was attractive, despite a twirly mustache. I am pro facial hair on boys, but beards are always preferable. This is one of the first mustaches (they're getting so much more popular, I fear for the beards) I've actually liked. Anyways....

So I lied. I did talk about clothes.

sans pants = no bueno
Even in tights it is too cold.
Sadly, I discovered this yesterday when I went out with some friends wearing a skirt and froze my freaking ass off, I am not even kidding, walking around Seattle. Why in God's name is still cold. Like seriously, I am not a wuss about the cold, and I did not stop complaining the entire night. Thankfully my friends were also bitching about the cold and the wind, so I was not too annoying. Hopefully.
shirt - pacsun, skirt - kimchi blue, tights - target/goodwill, shoes - target
The shirt is actually a little more pink than the orange it appears in the photo. And the tights I bought at Goodwill, brand new in the package from Target. They're really fantastic, completely opaque and such an awesome color.
I look scared of something, like I'm about to run away. For some reason, the night before last I started thinking about wearing these tights with my pink moccasins and the rest of the outfit came out of that. I originally was going to wear a different skirt, a purple striped one, but it did not work. So I tried this one, which I got at Urban Outfitters at the beginning of last summer and it worked perfectly. The shirt matches quite nicely with the flowers on it.
Despite the cold, last night was really fun. I got to see some people I don't see that often (we're getting better about it, but it still always feels like a treat) and watch both Are You Afraid of the Dark? and Clarissa Explains It All, which always make an evening fantastic. I also got to stuff myself with cheap Thai food downtown and then big cheeze-its, oreos and milk, and pixy stix at my friend's apartment. Definitely a fun night. (These picures, by the way, were taken after I got home around 2 or 3 last night, so excuse my face.)
Today was spent being lazy and then doing some more cleaning. I'm taking advantage of spring break to do some much needed spring cleaning. Conveniently, I've been alternating hard work with fun times, and haven't gotten burnt out yet.
sweater - my mom's (probably thrifted), shirt - thrifted, jeans - express, slipper socks - gift from alex
I felt like dressing cozy and comfy today, since it's still quite cold. And no shoes, since I haven't been out of the house, but these are the warmest, most cozy socks ever. They even have rubbery grippy stuff on the bottom so you don't slide around.
I'm wearing my glasses today. I'm trying to wear them more often, but I really just want a new pair. I have the new ones all picked out and everything. They're cheap! Actually, my friend Shane, who is one of the people I was with last night, told me about this site that has even cheaper glasses. He got his new glasses from there, but I haven't checked it out yet. I may change my mind on what to get if I find something good.
I also did something different with my hair today! I parted it to the side, braided and coiled the braid into a low bun. Unfortunately, you can't seem to see that it's a braided bun, rather than a regular one, but oh well. I think it looks cute regardless.

foodie digressions
Oh my goodness, I had the most delicious dinner. I made a pot roast with delicious carmelized onions, baked potatoes, and brussel sprouts and now I'm waiting for some homemade butterscotch pudding to chill. I have been on such a huge cooking kick these days. I used to only cook more asian or other "ethnic" foods but I've been focusing a lot of traditional foods. Lots of meat and potatoes type meals. I've also been obsessed with spinach, brussel sprouts, broccoli, and parsnips. And soup, oh my gosh am I obsessed with soup. I bake a chicken about once a week and use the carcass to make stock. Split pea, lentil, butternut squash, potato leek, all sorts of things. These simple dishes are so satisfying, I'm surprised it's taken me this long to learn how to cook these things.
pants - target, shirt - pacsun
I'm on spring break right now and I stayed home today, so this is what I wore to clean, do laundry, and cook the tasty meal I was jizzing in my pants over up there. I started cleaning up the kitchen while I was cooking and went a little insane. I scrubbed down our disgusting stove hood (oh my god, the grease was so bad) and that took a few house. I smashed my thumb which hurts to type now, but it looks so much better. I have some more to do tomorrow, but it's looking good.
Yesterday I picked Justina up from work at two and we met Amanda in Seattle. She had to pick her dad and brother up from the airport at seven and didn't want to go home after school. I wore this sweet sweater vest J gave me a few years ago and my corduroys, and a jacket I bought in Australia. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures. I even, unusually, wore my glasses and heels! Oh well. We got lunch and went shopping. I bought a really sweet silk tank top that has a really great shape and details at a vintage shop. I also stopped by the thrift store on my way home, and got an ugly suede skirt which will be turned into something AWESOME, just you wait and see.

just thought i'd mention....
not only have i not been posting on my own blog while i was freaking out over finals (dude, it's been awhile since i've taken school seriously, so give me a break if i freaked out a little more than necessary) but i haven't been checking up on my regular blogs to read. i just did so, and it was a joy. something about seeing all these wonderful creative people is so inspiring and a good blog post can really make my day. i'm not going to mention each of them by name, but my regular reads are all pretty much over on the side there. there's about a million new things i'm thinking and excited about now, so a general thanks to everyone that inspires me. thank you.
and.......I'm back!
The quarter is over and I am so relieved. I think I did alright in all my classes, so that's good. Really, I am just ecstatic to have a little time to NOT worry about school. In fact, I think I may have even figured out where I'll be going after I finish up at the community college I'm currently going to.
But enough about THAT. I really haven't been putting that much effort into my clothes for the last...er, two weeks. All that study for finals, and I had to spend so much time in the darkroom working on my final project. Anyways, I've been wearing some variation of this outfit pretty often.
sweatshirt - american apparel & american eagle, tee - pacsun, jeans - pacsun
It's my favorite lazy outfit. I like the double sweatshirts to keep me warm, and I have so many different colors of the same v-neck tee that the outfit is infinitely repeatable.
In fact, I wore a variation of this outfit today, hanging out with my friends. We went to Fred Meyer so my Justina could pick up a dvd of Role Models (such a good movie, we saw it together in theater, love paul rudd) and then went to Pickle Time, an awesome little burger joint in my town. We went back to my house, our friend Shane came over, and we watched the movie. (Amanda had to go home early though because she had to open at work in the morning.)
sweatshirt - target, tee - pacsun, jeans - pacsun
I have a few other unexciting outfits I snapped pictures of in the last two weeks. This one features a shirt I made last year. It's my own little political shirt, which I wore to support Obama throughout the primary process and election. Fun stuff yo.
shirt - stenciled by me
If you can't read it, it says "change we can believe in." I liked this shirt because it wasn't overtly political (I could get away with wearing it at work), but fun when people got it. Hey, check out this weird picture! I think I blinked as it took it.
It kinda creeps me out, like a lot. ha. And this, well this is the epitome of laziness. What can I say, I was taking a rare break from studying.
And finally, I did wear one cute outfit, for my final critique in photography.
sweater - uniqlo, shirt - target, jeans - pacsun, shoes - converse, necklace - vintage, silk scarf - thrifted
I found this scarf at the thrift store the same day I got that red flannel shirt and the belt I've been wearing. By the way, I will be posting my work from my photography class this quarter shortly. I need to pick up my final project pictures from school on Monday (and sell back my textbooks, so hopefully I'll have a little a cash) and then I'll have a post dedicated to the whole quarter again. Anyways, I'm glad to be back into blogging and should get much more regular.

busy busy busy
Ack, I can't believe I've been this bad about blogging. Actually I can, because I'm a bum. But it's the week before finals, and I'm trying desperately to finish projects and study for exams. I haven't taken many outfit pictures, but I do have . . . three outfits to show you since my last post.
sweatshirt - super old XXL skinnified by me, jeans - express, shoes - converse
dress - delias, sweater - thrifted, tights - dkny, shoes - converse, umbrella - ebay
sweater - target, jeans - old navy, leggings - target, shoes - vans, scarf - urban outfitters
(Yes, there is SNOW at my house. AGAIN. So freaking sick of it. Driving to school yesterday was hell. It was practically a blizzard, but completely stopped by the time I was heading home. Of course the snow is sticking around at my house. I mean, it's gorgeous, but such a pain. Driving up Novelty Hill was beautiful, but scary when the snow was coming down.)
