lighting fires at school....not a pyro, it's for a class

shirt - thrifted gramicci, skirt - secondhand, tights - dkny, flats - target

I wore this today at school. There's nothing very exciting about it, although I'm really liking how I've been wearing jeans less often. This blog is serving it's purpose of forcing me to dress better. Yay! I was super stoked this morning when I found my case full of cassette tapes and actually had something to listen to on the way to school. (My mp3 player is dead, the only radio station I listen to, KEXP, is having a pledge drive, and I don't have a cd player in my car.) I ended up listening to the first mixtape Justina ever made for me, back in freshman year. It was my christmas present and she had no idea what I listened to (crap back then) but she made a really good mixtape all the same. And it has held up surprisingly well. At least half the bands on it I still listen to and like, and the other half are all funny or nostalgic now. I also fired my first piece for ceramics class yesterday. It was a raku piece, so we got to do it outside. Raku is awesome. It's definitely one of my favorite techniques because it's so unpredictable. You never know how the glazes will turn out. I also love that charcoal black the bare clay turns. So pretty!

just waiting for my paycheck

cardigan - target, tee - pacsun, pants - gap, shoes - pf flyers

Another work outfit. I'm getting better about finding things that don't make me totally depressed in their boringness for work. It helped that yesterday morning was rather cold, so I could wear the cardigan. I also wore a neclace with this sweet blown glass pendant and some little earrings, and left my hair down, all of which made me happier about how I loooked. Talking to a coworker yesterday, I realized that it's probably not a big deal to wear printed shirts, as long as my apron covers them. Who would even know? And yeah, we have to wear aprons. Ugh. But on the bright side, I've had several ideas for knitting projects and I need to get art supplies for school (starts tomorrow...why oh why did I register for a 9 am class?) and I can get them all at work for 20% off.

i used to be so big and strong; i used to know my right from wrong

dress - vintage, shoes - random gladiators, purse - vintage

I have yet to actually take decent pictures of this dress. I will someday! The one problem with this dress is how short yet full skirted it is. It makes windy days rather treacherous. Amanda and I were in Fremont today, hanging out with a cute boy from her English class, and there were some close calls when it comes to flashing everyone my underwear. Including one time, on his roof, when the wind blew my skirt all the way up around my waist. Luckily we were all looking at the view (amazing), so no one saw my bright pink underwear.

Amanda climbing on the Fremont Troll. This is also the best picture I have of the troll. LAME. Fremont definitely needs another visit soon (and not just because Fremont Boy is a cutie, plus totally my soul mate in literature). A stop at Wendy's for spicy chicken fillets and a sing-a-long to Spice Girls/Nine Inch Nails on the way home completed an already fun day filled with coffee, beer, and ice cream (in that order), checking out the troll, some parks, a record store (picked up a Kraftwerk tape), and a bookstore, and finally watching Army of Darkness at Fremont Boy's apartment.

But hey, I have this old hand-me-down dress that I think is pretty cute, however, the length is a bit of a problem. I think I need to shorten it, but I'm not sure how short. I sort of like it the length it is though. There's something a little 30s/40s about it to me, by way of the 90s. However, I think it'll be a lot more wearable if I shorten it. Advice?

totally not fahion related, or even fashion adjacent

Does that make sense? I like to say adjacent with subject that might be sort of related, but I don't know if people get it. It's like the subject is close to another topic, but not actually there. I don't know, it doesn't really make sense, but I say it anyways.

I do not have an outfit post for today, but I'm feeling rather wound up and felt like writing a little bit. My friends all just headed home from a fun and full day. My day started when I woke up an hour later than I planned, and had to run to meet my old japanese teacher and a bunch of other students for lunch. I went with Justina and Amanda. (I mention them a lot on this blog, as they are my best buds, but they are sometimes just called J and A. This is not an attempt at anonymity, rather we often call each other by our first initial, as do many of our friends. Together, we are JAR.) After three hours of chatting and eating pho (yeah, didn't go to a japanese restaurant, strangely enough), we went to Amanda's, baked cookies, and waited to hear from some of our other friends about hanging/band practice. Hung out, no band practice, went out to eat again (this time thai) and then ended up back at my place watching videos. Eventually we got sort of inspired and started making this silly little video ourselves. It's ridiculous, all about a boy who basically plays the game "hot lava" (remember? you can't touch the floor because it's lava so you have to jump from furniture to furniture) all the time. I wish I had a pictures from when we were filming, as my friends (it was all dudes except me and J, since Amanda went home before we started this project) are quite attractive boys. Actually, Tommy, the hot lava guy, has been posted on cuteboysmakenervous.com

You know, actually I have a few pictures from lunch today. While I'm not wearing anything especially exciting, I might as well post them.

That is most of the people at the lunch, JAR are all making peace signs, and my japanese teacher is giving herself bunny ears.

And there is (left to right): Amanda, Sensei, Justina, and me. Aren't my friends and teacher cute? Amanda does preppy style really well, Sensei is just kawaii (cute), Justina does a really good mix of super cute and kind of badass, and then there's me. I don't know how I'd describe my style. I guess I don't really know what I want it to be and that's why I have this blog.

I also have a picture from yesterday, before I met up with my dad. I headed into Seattle to see him, and we went to this cafe/bar where a bunch of guys from the Last Exit (it was a coffee shop my dad used to frequent when I was young, it does not exist any longer) meet up every Friday. They're really funny guys, weird old men who play cards and make dirty jokes all afternoon. Sadly, my favorite guy, the man who runs the UFO hotline (he also just ran for state congress) was not there. On the plus side, the bartender was attractive, despite a twirly mustache. I am pro facial hair on boys, but beards are always preferable. This is one of the first mustaches (they're getting so much more popular, I fear for the beards) I've actually liked. Anyways....

So I lied. I did talk about clothes.

projectssss

I have bunches of things on my mind that I want to make or do.

I want to knit a slouchy grey wool cable knit hat. Something sort of like this:

but I think I'll do different cables. I'm planning on just making up the pattern as I go. I've never knit a hat and I've never knit cables but it really dousn't seem like it'll be too hard.

I want to finish this painting:

You may recognize it from one of my pictures from photo 1, in which my friend was pretending to paint it. I started it ages ago but haven't gotten around to finishing it up.

I want to make some slouchy menswear style pants using this pattern:

I'm thinking of finding some giant men's pants at the thrift store, made of a nice fabric and big enough that I have plenty of room to work with and turning them into lovely pants like those. There were also some Anthropologie pants I loved a few years ago that were high waisted trousers with a big sash and bow and I wish I could find a picture of those.

I need to get my hair cut. I want it cut like Linda Ronstadt:

So so adorable. My mom promised she'd pay for me to get my hair cut for Christmas, but we haven't done that yet. She's going to make me an appointment at the salon my friend goes to (they use all organic products and are really cool) on Friday, so hopefully my hair will be gorgeous soon! I was considering dreading it, which I have always wanted to do and definitely will do some day, but I decided I want pretty hair right now. Locks don't really go with a lot of styles I'm interested in wearing and I don't feel like limiting myself right now.

By the way, I just added a list of blogs I read to the sidebar over there. --> There's a lot of really great blogs on the list and I think they're all amazing. I am inspired by such a huge range of styles and I think you can see that in the blogs I love. They're all so wonderful in their own special ways.
