My lovelies, this sucks. Both my camera and my computer are currently out of commission. I feel like every other blog post these days is whining about why I can't post. I swear, the second I get these things fixed, I'll get the ball rolling again. I really do miss blogging. In fact, I feel so guilty about not doing it that I haven't even been able to read my favorite blogs, so I'm also missing my bloggy friends. Posting should resume soon! In the meantime, I'm drinking wine in the bathtub while reading Infinite Jest and finding cute art in dive bar bathrooms.

flannel shirt - thrifted from little boys section, skirt - thrifted, lace tights - fred meyer, boots - thrifted, purse - coach
Um, you guys, how ridiculous is it that it is fucking JULY and I am still wearing tights?? Sure, they're sheer/open weave ones, but I have only gone barelegged a few times this year and that? Not cool. Summer is totally my favorite season and having it be so lousy is really depressing. On the bright side, it means I can wear favorites like this flannel year round, but come ON, I haven't even gone swimming this year! whine whine whine . . . I bet you are totally sick of hearing about me complain about this weather, especially if you live in the rest of the country where it is unbearably hot, but no matter how miserable you think that heat is, I would trade in a second. I just want a real summer.

RIP JD, RIP
coat - silence & noise, tshirt - pacsun, skirt - thrifted, tights - dkny, flats - target
I bought this coat from Urban Outfitters not long ago. It was marked down quite a lot and I like it. It has this great pleated back and a giant hood. I really like it. It looks kind of bad when it's zipped up, but I rarely zip my coats anyways. I wore this to work and then to an improv show in Seattle with Justina and our friend Joe, from high school. It was fantastic to see him again, and the improv show was really good. I even got a Depeche Mode lyric in.
sweater - target, shirt - gap, pants - gap, shoes - pf flyers
This is a boring work outfit again. But warm and maybe a little less boring. These shoes are insanely comfortable, so I really like wearing them for work.
There is sad news. JD Salinger, one of the last living authors I loved, died yesterday. I am saddened, but hopeful that some of his work will be published posthumously. He had not published anything in years, but I had read that he was still writing and things might be published after his death.

alien me

I just found this sketch of myself I did about a year and a half ago. I really enjoy sketching with colored pencils like this. Something about using color in a non-realistic way frees me up. Using cooler tones for shadows and warmer for highlights works best because the warmer tones really pop against the cool. As always, I'm rather frustrated with the quality of the scan. I tried to adjust contrast and such after I scanned it, but my scanner simply cannot handle subtle variations in tone. So it looks overworked in some areas (and it very well may have been, but it's not nearly as apparent in real life) and underworked in others and that frustrates me. The sketch was not done from life, but from a picture I took of myself in the breakroom when I used to work at Bed Bath & Beyond.
Also, I am pissed because I was supposed to go into Seattle today for an Exclusive Deftones Live in Hawaii Party and it was cancelled. Because my stupid friend who was hosting it decided he wanted to do mushrooms today, instead of playing Deftones related drinking games at 2 in the afternoon. And he didn't even tell me it was cancelled, I only found out because I texted my friend to see if she needed a ride and she told me. Lameness.

FUCK WHITERIVER
Dear Whiteriver Amphitheater,
You suck. I hate you. You are goddamn motherfucking piece of shit. Trying to see a show at you makes me want to put a gun in my mouth and pull the trigger. I hope a giant hole opens in the earth and swallows you up and you fall into the fiery pits of hell.
Sincerely,
Rachel

Had tickets to see No Doubt last night ($10 for lawn seating sounded like a pretty good deal) at the Whiteriver Amphitheater. I'd never been before. The drive that should have taken us an hour took over three. Missed both opening bands (The Sounds and Paramore, didn't mind because they suck and I've seen Paramore before) and the first couple No Doubt songs. The show itself was pretty good, but I am never again going to Auburn (too many casinos) and especially never going to Whiteriver. Hanging out in the parking lot after the show, waiting to be able to get out of there, these two guys came up to us. They thought they knew Liam and needed to borrow a phone. One of them was completely trashed and kept asking us what high school we went to and holding our hands. When they left, the drunk one hugged each of us (I never ever know what to do when strangers want to hug me and it happens all the time) and his friend told me I was cute. My favorite part of the night was probably that I just barely made it home without having to stop for gas. I'd borrowed my step-dad's car since mine was in the shop, and wanted to save my very limited cash to put gas in my own car when I get it back from the mechanic. But it was perfect.

While we were stuck in traffic, Amanda thought she heard an animal noise from the marsh next to the highway. A minute later, a girl from the car two cars ahead of us jumped out and ran across the highway (the lane next to us was an exit only and the cars in it were not stopped and were going very fast so it was a little sketchy) to the marsh and picked up a cat! She ran back to her car. Later, we were right behind them and both our windows were open, so we talked to them a bit. They told us they were going to name the kitty Adrien, and put it in the back window so we could see how cute it was. It was just a kitten. We told them how glad we were that they rescued it.

policy of truth
So it's been quite awhile since I've posted, but I've not been feeling well, or been busy, or just out enjoying the intermittent gorgeous weather for the last few weeks. I've mainly been pretty lazy about clothes, especially on school days, and the few freezing, wintery days, but I have been wearing different shoes! Switching up the chucks and vans for some cute flats.
(I know a few people were concerned about my friend Alex, and I mentioned in my last post, I think, that she was doing better. Unfortunately, her progress has turned back around and she's in the ICU. Her vocal cords are partially paralyzed and she may need a tracheotomy. So if you could, send your good thoughts her way again.)
This outfit I wore on Easter. I wanted to wear something cute and Eastery, but I was late getting ready to go over to my aunt's and just threw something on. I've worn this shirt several times on the blog, but I just found this track jacket I bought last year (it was on sale!) and like how bright it is. It's kinda 80's looking too, I think. And yay for cute hair.

track jacket - macy's, shirt - urban outfitters, pants - pacsun
Tuesday was another beautiful day, and while I didn't do anything especially exciting, I did go for a walk by the river with Justina and her mom. Later, I sunbathed in my yard and did some gardening. It was awesome to wear shorts and these cute pink moccasins. This shirt is one of my favorite band shirts, it's super comfortable and the graphic is cute. I got it when I saw Modest Mouse back in like, freshman year or something. And yes, those shorts have paint on them. I thought watercolor would wash out, so I was wiping my brush on my pants, but it turns out it doesn't.

This I wore one of the really awful days we had. It was a school day and I was feeling pretty crappy. Layers kept me warm and the dark colors went well with my mood. I used to wear a lot more black, like almost all the time (I was NOT goth though), but at some point that changed.

sweatshirt - volcom, tshirt - forgot, long sleeve - pacsun, jeans - pacsun, shoes - converse
I have some pictures from my stepdad's birthday celebration (and a few other family members, his family is so big we combine birthdays) on Saturday, but I think I'll save those for another post. Also, I'll try to get some of the pictures my friend took today (it was nice! we had a picnic! in the park!) and post those soon too.

Cause I am most ill and I'm rhymin' and stealin'
I went to visit my friend in the hospital again today. She's doing worse. It was a really beautiful day though, and I'll post about that tomorrow. Meanwhile, I have a bunch of outfit pictures I haven't posted yet. I don't have a lot to say about them, since I don't really remember anything about them.

jeans - pacsun, shirt - urban outfitters, sweatshirt - american apparel

The scarf is vintage. It was my mom's and the silk is pretty much disintegrating in places but it's my very favorite. I try to wear it less these days, replacing it with a nice one I bought at Urban Outfitters, but nothing is as special as this one. The color is perfect too. (I wore this outfit yesterday, which was much yuckier than the rest of the week has been. I thought our nice weather was over, but then today was gorgeous too.)

jeans - pacsun, tie-dye - diy, jacket - cotton on
I wore this another really nice day, maybe Tuesday? I like wearing tie-dye with military-esque jackets. It's very 60's counterculture to me. The shirt is one of my favorites of the ones I made at my tie-dye party last summer (so fun, I supplied all the dye and people brought shirts, socks, sweatshirts, underwear, fabric, and tons of other stuff to dye) because of the colors. The jacket I bought in Australia at this store called Cotton On. There was one right by my hotel, and I kept seeing the jacket every time I went in and out. Since it was winter there and I had only a thin sweatshirt, I decided it was totally worth buying. Now it's actually my favorite spring/summer evening jacket. Light, comfortable, and goes really well with the hippie-ish style I tend towards in warmer weather.

jeans - pacsun, shirt - forever 21

This is a less than exciting outfit, but whatever. When I wore this, I was sitting outside in the sun at school for two hours and I got a tan line on my right arm from the sleeve. First color of the year! Also, I've been wearing my hair down a lot more and I really like it.

shirt - thrifted gramicci, sweatshirt - old navy
I know this picture doesn't really show my outfit that much, but I was pretty drunk. So was Justina. Ha. I was housesitting actually, and the daugther of the people I was housesitting for came over with her boyfriend and a bunch of alcohol and the just the four of us got pretty trashed. I think this is a surprisingly good drunk picture, usually I have half closed eyes and look really yucky.

I think I shall save today's outfit to post tomorrow, but I have one other thing to show you. I made this card for my friend who is in the hospital (she has Guillian Barre syndrome and it's pretty intense). Along with Justina, we are the Beastie Boys (I am Mike D., Justina is Adrock, and she is MCA) so I had to use a picture of them on the front. We also used our Beastie Boys nicknames to address and sign it. She really liked it.
Also, tomorrow I am going to a party/show in Bellingham and I just CAN'T decide what to wear. Any suggestions?

housesitting and watching degrassi
And worrying about my friend who is in the hospital. I'm going to visit her tomorrow, but it sounds pretty serious. She's sick, and I really hope she'll be ok.
jeans - pacsun (like always), shirt - urban outfitters, sweater - thrifted uniqlo
Trying a smile here. I really don't like my smile.
Oh, and I know I mentioned the Where the Wild Things Are movie last time I wore this shirt, but there's a trailer out now, and you should totally watch it. It's really amazing. I can't wait for it to come out, but it's not until freaking October. Watch it though. Even the trailer might make you cry.
Arcade Fire, Spike Jonze, Maurice Sendak, Dave Eggers, Jim Henson puppets . . . I can't wait until October. You can't even believe how happy I am that they are not ruining this. So glad it's not animated, so glad they didn't do a reshoot to make it more appealing to kids, so so glad. Oh my god, and how much do I want the poster?
