the fourth

shirt (worn as a dress) - thrifted, slip - mom's, belt - thrifted, shoes - random gladiators, purse - mom's from the 90s

I got a bunch of men's XL shirts at the thrift store awhile back, planning to reconstruct them into cute little sundresses but I haven't gotten to that yet, so I wore this one as it is, just belted. I like that the sleeves kind of turn batwing/kimono-y, although it definitely tended to ride up. I didn't mind the slip showing a bit, as long as it was just the lace part, but tugging it down repeatedly definitely got annoying.

We enjoyed both the public and private fireworks, although the dry grass was a little sketchy for lighting them off. I'm actually pretty happy with how the pictures turned out, but I think I'd be a lot happier if I had used a tripod. Something like the gorillapod would be perfect for these sorts of situations.

But sparklers really are my farorite firework, despite the fact that I like lighting the other ones. Sparklers are just so pretty, and fun to make designs with when taking pictures.

I made a delicious strawberry rhubarb pie, with rhubarb from the garden and strawberries picked locally. I love making pies, but this was my first one with a lattice top crust. I love how it looked.

This is the one shitty thing about the fourth, especially in a dry year. Usually we have so much rain that everything is nice and damp all the time and there's very little danger of fire. But this year we had pretty much no rain in the weeks leading up to the holiday. This fire was caused by some idiot (probably a stupid hick wearing Carhartts and driving a lifted truck, but I'm being a little judgmental) throwing a cherry bomb out the window of their car as they went around the corner by my house. Luckily there were smart people around who reacted quickly and knew what to do (most efficient way to deal with something like this is shoveling dirt on the flames) and the fire department got there quickly. Still, it was a little frightening so close to my house, and made me angry that someone could be so completely unthinking and inconsiderate of other people's safety. I mean, the flames even jumped the road, and were climbing up a tree when the fire department arrived.

i used to be so big and strong; i used to know my right from wrong

dress - vintage, shoes - random gladiators, purse - vintage

I have yet to actually take decent pictures of this dress. I will someday! The one problem with this dress is how short yet full skirted it is. It makes windy days rather treacherous. Amanda and I were in Fremont today, hanging out with a cute boy from her English class, and there were some close calls when it comes to flashing everyone my underwear. Including one time, on his roof, when the wind blew my skirt all the way up around my waist. Luckily we were all looking at the view (amazing), so no one saw my bright pink underwear.

Amanda climbing on the Fremont Troll. This is also the best picture I have of the troll. LAME. Fremont definitely needs another visit soon (and not just because Fremont Boy is a cutie, plus totally my soul mate in literature). A stop at Wendy's for spicy chicken fillets and a sing-a-long to Spice Girls/Nine Inch Nails on the way home completed an already fun day filled with coffee, beer, and ice cream (in that order), checking out the troll, some parks, a record store (picked up a Kraftwerk tape), and a bookstore, and finally watching Army of Darkness at Fremont Boy's apartment.

But hey, I have this old hand-me-down dress that I think is pretty cute, however, the length is a bit of a problem. I think I need to shorten it, but I'm not sure how short. I sort of like it the length it is though. There's something a little 30s/40s about it to me, by way of the 90s. However, I think it'll be a lot more wearable if I shorten it. Advice?

ballard by the beach

Yesterday Amanda and I went on a random adventure to Ballard. We went to the beach, got leered at by cars full of boys, looked at records at the record store and got pizza at Snoose Junction. Went home, baked cookies, and watched movies.

dress - h&m, shoes - vans, bag - old navy

I got this dress a few years ago in New York. Justina and Amanda came with me for spring break, and we stayed with my aunt. I liked this dress a lot, but I haven't worn it in quite awhile.

too hot to handle, too cold to hold

My day: lunch with Sensei, looking at vinyl at Easy Street, Artopia in Georgetown (and getting lost trying to find parking), Ghostbusters video game on the Wii at Shane's.

Sounds like a perfect day to me.

These were called "Satan's Birdcages" but Justina and I thought they looked a little Depeche Mode-esque. Always a good thing in our book.

Amanda and I knew right away where we wanted to take pictures. This crazy old half torn/burned down brick building with sandy dusty sooty dirt was perfect.

shirt - fred meyer (i think, it's pretty old), pants - urban outfitters, purse - mom's from the nineties, shoes - random gladiators

These are some new pants I got when I was hanging out with my dad. On sale for $10? Perfect. Actually, I made him buy them for me. He hates going shopping so much that he waited outside smoking a cigarette until I had found what I wanted and I had to go to the door and wave him inside to pay for them.

dress - ross, shoes - saltwater sandals from me

I like to talk about my friend's clothes as much as my own. This is a new dress of Amanda's and I think it's totally cute. And goes so well with her new sandals! Sundresses are the best and I better increase my own sundress wearing.

I thought these busses were pretty neat looking. I love old things, and old crappy vehicles can be rather nice. There was a clown/juggler performing in front of them at one point, and when I took the picture, there was a comedian chick talking about the zoo and porn.

This is my favorite picture of the day. I loved this little bridge between the two buildings. Georgetown is a funny place. I really love the old, broken down-ness of some of it. I've only been there once before, and that was just a house party, so I had no idea what the neighborhood was like before. We went to a pretty sweet bakery and got a giant peanut butter cookie to share.

Oh, I guess I like this one quite a lot too. This is the side of the building that was partially torn down.

The one crazy/annoying/scary thing about Georgetown is that it is right by an airport, so there are always low flying planes. They kind of freak me out every time they fly overhead. Especially when we were at that party awhile back, hanging out in the backyard. The first time one flew over it really scared me. They're actually a lot closer and bigger seeming in person.

We stopped by Shane's house on our way home because he'd just gotten a Ghostbusters video game. So far, it looks like a really frustrating and confusing game.

Me (I use my friends as a footrest)

I'm kind of missing two of my friends right now. I talked to them both recently, one last night on facebook but he's currently in another state, and the other just now when he called me, probably drunk and being ridiculous. Both these boys kind of make me sad, but they're also really great people to hang out with. They're difficult to be friends with though, and add a lot of drama to my life when they're in it. Regardless, I hope they'll be around more in the future.
