macklemore & ryan lewis - - - same love

I forgot to post this yesterday, but I didn't want to wait until next week. This Tuesday we get to vote on a lot of important things. Many states, Washington included, have the opportunity to pass marriage equality. More important than who our president is for the next four years, this would ensure that everyone is able to marry the person they love. This should be a right denied to no one, and I very much hope you vote to approve Referendum 74. (Or whatever is on your ballot, in your state.)

RIP MCA

I woke up this morning and checked twitter and immediately saw a million tweets about Adam Yauch's passing. Actually the first one I saw was from Edgar Wright. I texted Justina and Alex. In middle school, I was Mike D, Justina was Adrock, and Alex was MCA. Alex had heard already, Justina had not. Our Beastie Boys namesakes are actually a big part of how Justina and I became friends. They've been a favorite for years, my first real concert was seeing the Beastie Boys with my dad and running into Justina and Alex, there with Justina's sister. The past few hours have been spent listening to their songs and watching their videos, reading articles about Adam Yauch, and crying, intermittently. He was such a talented individual. Music, film (he directed a lot of the Beastie Boys' videos, as Nathanial Hörnblowér), charity work, he did it all. This is a great loss. Read this and this and watch all your favorite videos, listen to all your favorite songs, watch live performances and look at pictures, and cry. That's what I'm doing today.

If you know me at all or have read this blog much, you've probably realized I'm pretty into Depeche Mode. I may have a bit of an unhealthy obsession. But they really are, in my opinion, one of the greatest bands ever. And Violator is certainly one of the best albums. Seriously, go listen to Enjoy the Silence and Personal Jesus. Right now. Do it.*

Anyways, since Justina and I are both completely in love with the band, and also dorks, we had a party on Friday to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Violator's release. It was kind of small, but everyone dressed Depeche (to the best of their ability) and we decorated with black and purple, lots of tulle, a huge poster, and some red roses. Justina made a cake and we drank Depeche Mode themed cocktails. It was both ridiculous and amazing.

music playing make it dreamy for dancing

coat - old navy, sweatshirt - old navy, tee - thrifted alternative apparel, jeans - gap, shoes - thrifted, hat - target

I wore this the other day while hanging out with Amanda in Seattle. Hit up Neptune and picked up a PJ Harvey tape, which I am way into right now. (I was listening to it in my car before work this morning and when I went in the store one of my coworkers asked me what I was listening to and said it sounded good, heh.)

I actually really like this stupid acid washed tshirt. Picked it up after trying on a little kids Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles shirt, which unfortunately was too small. (I could have pulled it off in high school, when I was tinier and thrifting and not caring about fashion was what I considered cool.) It's crazy comfy, the cotton is so soft, and it really does feel like a perfectly worn in shirt.

Of course we went to Ugly Mug. Got their hot cocoa this time, which is delicious, and spent a few hours sitting around talking. They also have some really cool artwork there. I really should find out who the artist is.
