buffalo plaid and stripes

Who's excited for Christmas? I know I am! I love decorating and taking pictures by the tree makes me really happy. My mom and I decorated the tree over a couple nights after work since I'm never home during the day. We were kind of tipsy and it was hilarious. Our tree may not look perfect, but I like it that way! I only wish it wasn't a fake tree. I really miss going to the tree farm down the road and picking out and cutting our own tree. I loved the evergreen smell and even kind of liked the chore (which was always mine) of watering the tree. I will admit, fake trees are a little easier, and certainly cheaper.

Usually my work outfits are pretty boring but occasionally I wear something cute. I wear this shirt too much but hey, I'm from Seattle and it's cold, so I wear flannel. Can I tell you something awesome about these tights? They have fully formed heels, just like socks. For some reason, I think that's really cool. Especially because the toe and heel is all black while the rest of the foot is striped. Maybe I'm a freak, but I get such a kick out of these tights. Also, stripes are awesome.

I got new glasses! Finally. I love them! They look all black in this photo, but they're dark brown with a sort texture-y pattern. Kind of tortoise shell-esque but not exactly. I didn't wear them during the day because I was already wearing contacts when I got the package, but I had to try them on and snap a picture once I got home from work. Also, my bangs are pinned back because they're wayyy too long right now. My cousin is trimming them next week though, so it'll all be good.

p.s. I'm leaving the contest open for at least a week more. There haven't been many entries so be sure to enter as your chances of winning are still really really good. I need a little more time to get all the stuff for the prize together. Go enter now! I promise you'll like the suprise prize.

glasses glasses glasses

As I mentioned awhile back, I've been looking for new glasses. (I'm also looking for prescription sunglasses since the thing that annoys me most when I'm wearing glasses instead of contacts is not being able to put on sunglasses when I'm driving. Also, there's no way I'm using clip on sunglasses shades or dorky transition lenses.) I've been looking at Zenni Optical mainly, because they're so cheap. I've looked at a couple other sites as well, but they don't have anything I like better and they're more expensive. So here's some glasses I'm considering (all from zennioptical.com).

First, a basic pair. I like the shape, and these are in the very cheapest category. I'm a little disappointed they don't have solid black, but the green on the inside is kind of neat.

I also like them in a clear frame. Kind of hilarious. There's also black with clear, but I like those less than the black and green.

I also quite like these, they're just a little nerdier seeming to me. And come in solid black, which is nice.

The half-rim thing on these is kind of nice, but I sort of think they look too much like those cheap reading glasses they sell in drugstores without a prescription.

I like them in green best.

The shape of these kind of reminds me of my Humphrey's sunglasses, and I love the tortoiseshell frame. Basically I think these are really nice, but maybe not ugly/ridiculous enough for me.

I've always wanted a pair of cats eye glasses, but I'm not sure they'd work on my face. I think these are a nice shape though, not too extreme but still solidly cats eye.

The black is fine and probably most wearable, but I absolutely love them in that translucent red.

I'm also looking for something I could put tinted lenses with my prescription in. I need a pair of sunglasses. These ones work as big, face covering frames.

I actually like that weird clear/brown pattern, but there's also black, tortoiseshell, and white.

Finally, these could be either Buddy Holly style glasses or Wayfarer type sunglasses. I like them both ways.

The one glasses style I have not been able to find is a pair of browline frames, like what Malcolm X wore. They seem to be impossible to find, but I want a pair so bad. Look how sexy he looks.

So what do you think? Any styles you particularly like or dislike? Let me know your favorites or which ones you think would look like crap on me. Or give me suggestions of other styles you think I might like.

bumming about

I've basically not been wearing anything cool since...the Depeche Mode concert probably was the last time I wore something interesting. It's been all jeans and t-shirts and boring-ness since then. I don't know what's up with that.

It might be the weather. We had a few hot days and now it's just all boring and blah. Not rainy and misty or stormy, not pleasantly warm, not sweltering heat, just blah. Meh temperatures, somewhat overcast, boring. I hate it. I like WEATHER. I like it to be hot or cold. I like it to be rainy or sunny. I hate this inbetween bullshit.

I promise I'll start dressing better though. I'm also looking at eyeglasses frames, so expect a post on those soon. I'm having a bitch of a time deciding what to go with. I'm thinking about finding the ugliest frames possible at a thrift store, huge old grandpa style ones and getting my prescription put in them. I'm also really digging clear plastic frames, big black plastic (thick and square) frames, tortoiseshell, and half rim plastic frames (think Malcolm X). Yeah, I don't like metal frames whatsoever.

So maybe I'll have a post soon with some of the frames I'm considering. In the meantime, this is what I wore on Thursday for a random trip in Bellevue with Amanda. She had to bring her dad's forgotten wallet to him and I tagged along so I could get some film developed (except I decided I hate the place I took it to because I'm not happy with their print quality) and we went on an epic adventure to find gelato. None was found so we settled for Coldstone and hung out in Robinswood Park.

By the way, if you know any sources of cheap eyeglasses, let me know in the comments. I've been looking at Zenni Optical, the frames section of Coastal Contacts, and 39 Dollar Glasses (they look pretty good for using your own frames if I go the thriftstore route), but if you know of some other places, please share.

sans pants = no bueno

Even in tights it is too cold.

Sadly, I discovered this yesterday when I went out with some friends wearing a skirt and froze my freaking ass off, I am not even kidding, walking around Seattle. Why in God's name is still cold. Like seriously, I am not a wuss about the cold, and I did not stop complaining the entire night. Thankfully my friends were also bitching about the cold and the wind, so I was not too annoying. Hopefully.

The shirt is actually a little more pink than the orange it appears in the photo. And the tights I bought at Goodwill, brand new in the package from Target. They're really fantastic, completely opaque and such an awesome color.

I look scared of something, like I'm about to run away. For some reason, the night before last I started thinking about wearing these tights with my pink moccasins and the rest of the outfit came out of that. I originally was going to wear a different skirt, a purple striped one, but it did not work. So I tried this one, which I got at Urban Outfitters at the beginning of last summer and it worked perfectly. The shirt matches quite nicely with the flowers on it.

Despite the cold, last night was really fun. I got to see some people I don't see that often (we're getting better about it, but it still always feels like a treat) and watch both Are You Afraid of the Dark? and Clarissa Explains It All, which always make an evening fantastic. I also got to stuff myself with cheap Thai food downtown and then big cheeze-its, oreos and milk, and pixy stix at my friend's apartment. Definitely a fun night. (These picures, by the way, were taken after I got home around 2 or 3 last night, so excuse my face.)

Today was spent being lazy and then doing some more cleaning. I'm taking advantage of spring break to do some much needed spring cleaning. Conveniently, I've been alternating hard work with fun times, and haven't gotten burnt out yet.

sweater - my mom's (probably thrifted), shirt - thrifted, jeans - express, slipper socks - gift from alex

I felt like dressing cozy and comfy today, since it's still quite cold. And no shoes, since I haven't been out of the house, but these are the warmest, most cozy socks ever. They even have rubbery grippy stuff on the bottom so you don't slide around.

I'm wearing my glasses today. I'm trying to wear them more often, but I really just want a new pair. I have the new ones all picked out and everything. They're cheap! Actually, my friend Shane, who is one of the people I was with last night, told me about this site that has even cheaper glasses. He got his new glasses from there, but I haven't checked it out yet. I may change my mind on what to get if I find something good.

I also did something different with my hair today! I parted it to the side, braided and coiled the braid into a low bun. Unfortunately, you can't seem to see that it's a braided bun, rather than a regular one, but oh well. I think it looks cute regardless.
