pie for breakfast

slip - liberty of london for target, tights - target

Sometimes you just need an incredibly lazy day, and that's what today was. I never actually changed out of this Liberty print slip and some ripped tights, and I spent the whole day in bed eating leftover strawberry rhubarb pie with ice cream, reading, and watching Mad Men. Yeah, I missed out on that until now. I had caught a few episodes at other people's houses but I just illegally downloaded (shhh) all 4 seasons and am totally bingeing on all the early 60s greatness. I wore a dress that reminds me of Joan Holloway except I don't have her curves the other day. But I think Peggy Olson might be my hero and I love her goofy little bangs.

I just finished reading Vanity Fair by Thakeray, which was great. A novel without a hero, yes, but thoroughly entertaining. Now I've been alternating some short stories by Fitzgerald with another beast of a book, Infinite Jest. My friend Amanda assures the that about 150 pages in, it gets interesting and readable, but I will admit that I have been stuck in the first few pages, unable to really get into it. However, our informal book club and her encouragement will hopefully get me past that and I can start yet another slog. It seems lately all I read are enormous, important books. Anyone have anything light and fluffy to read? I have enjoyed some Jeeves stories by Wodehouse, and was thinking about picking up some more Nero Wolf books. I need light but fun things like that to read while at work.

reorganizing my bookshelf

sweater - stepdad's, romper - urban outfitters, socks - sock dreams, glasses - zenni optical, nailpolish - black out

I hope you all know the joy of being totally lazy all day. A couple days ago I called in sick, despite feeling only sort of horrible. I spent a couple hours in bed watching Korean dramas on Hulu and then read a book in the bath. Occasionally, never getting dressed in real clothes is exactly what you need. This little romper I got last spring and it is exclusively sleep/lounge-wear. But it is getting colder, so I threw a giant sweater (I seriously love this misshapen, moth-eaten thing) on over it and pull on some tall scrunchable socks. Maximum coziness.

I dyed my hair a week ago, sort of for Halloween. I wanted it darker in general, but I also thought black would look better with my Halloween costume. I'm kind of loving it now, but it has kicked me out of my previous fall mood a little bit. All those fallen leaf colors I was so into, browns and golds and rusty reds and burnt oranges, are not working so well with the hair. I also bought a new gel eyeliner that looks so amazing applied heavily, especially after sleeping with it on, and these two things are getting me in a darker, more goth and spooky sort of mood. I also discovered I love the top knot/Swedish bun an insane amount. I didn't redo my hair to go to work the next day, so it was even messier, but I still got a ton of comments and compliments.

sleepy shirts

shirt - pjs, jeans - gap, glasses - zenni optical

I haven't really been wearing anything interesting recently, so I thought I'd show you what I look like on a regular lazy day. I definitely wore this shirt to sleep in the night before and then threw on jeans in the morning. The shirt has a million holes and some paint splatters and my name written on the inside of the collar because I slept in it at summer camp and we had to label all our clothes. It's one of those pieces of clothing that you should throw out but you never will, at least not until it disintegrates off your body. It is literally the softest shirt I have ever worn. Also making an appearance: glasses and disheveled hair.

I wish there was a better place in my room to take pictures, but it's kind of all taken up by furniture. Maybe when I finally get my own place! Which is happening this summer. Starting to look at apartments and I actually just bought this really great couch at the thriftstore. It was an amazing deal and is totally mid century modern and I just couldn't pass it up, even though I'm still living at home and really don't have a good place to store it.
