fantastic fall

flannel - gap, sweatshirt - old navy, thermal - target, cutoffs - diy, polka dot tights - target, socks - target, boots - thrifted, purse - thrifted coach, glasses - zenni optical

This was a super fun day Justina and I spent walking around the park and collecting pretty leaves. I wore this new lipstick I picked up by Revlon. I love the super dark, purpley color, but I feel like it's a bit too extreme for every day wear. Like it would be weird to wear to work. But I do love these shorts with the dotty tights and I've been wanting to wear my glasses a lot more.

I also took a lot of pictures, and found this super cute tree. The knots naturally formed hearts and the carving is by a local artist named Dan Cautrell. He creates these carved wood pieces and fits them onto existing knots on trees, cut branches, and stumps. And then, in addition, there's the little love note initials? Cuteness.

apple picking/scavenging

shirt - thrifted, sweatshirt - gap, jeans - gap, sneakers - pf flyers, watch - grandpa's, glasses - zenni optical

I went to this park in Redmond to scavenge apples on a day I thought was going to be all cool and fall-like but ended up being way too warm for the layers I decided to wear. But we explored the community garden and I took masses of pictures of pretty flowers and things. It was really nice. Later, I went shoe shopping and bought my mom some cute flats as a late birthday present.

summer memories

I think I've mentioned that I've got a stockpile of photos from the summer, when I wasn't blogging. They are so completely out of season at this point, it's almost embarrassing, but I like them to much to not post them.

These are from one of the best days of the entire summer. It was one of our only really hot days this year. Amanda came over, we drank too many gin and tonics, and watched The Virgin Suicides. We made delicious grilled zucchini, feta, and provolone pizza for dinner. Later, we went up to the small lake our friend lives near. We swam out to the dock with bottles of Session in our bathing suits. We also brought our vodka lemonades down to the public beach in travel coffee mugs, talked for hours in the dark, smoked too many cigarettes, and went drunk night swimming.

I totally love this great handmade vintage shirt I bought early in the summer. C'mon, it's yellow, sheer-ish, striped, and has floral print and ruffles. While I haven't embraced mom jeans, I am totally in favor of hacking off the legs of the awkwardly high, button-fly ones, cuffing them or leaving the edges raw, and wearing them as shorts. So I guess I could just say I am a fan of mom shorts. There was also a great pleated khaki pair earlier in the summer I quite liked.

As you can see, I was totally nerding out with the vintage cameras. Unfortunately the Polaroid had some issues, but I did take a roll of film with the Yashica. I haven't gotten it developed yet - I am terrible about that - but when I do, I'll definitely post a few shots.

i wear my wardrobe

I joined weardrobe! Finally. It seems really cool, although I'm having a hell of a time figuring out how to set a profile picture. Well, it seems pretty obvious but it's just not working for me. Anyways, there's some super fashionable people with great photos on there and I'm pretty excited about it. Check it out/follow me? I'll probably end up posting photos there first since I don't bother writing much. I take a little more time with a post on the blog.

Just so this post isn't ALL words, here are two pictures I took over the summer with a vintage Yashica 35mm SLR from my mom's aunt. The photos make me miss being unbearably hot and having dirty toes.

christmas, all wrapped up

I took these photos on Christmas. I know it's really late, but I really like them. And yeah, I know, these type of photos have been done a million times before, but I had fun with them. My favorite is the second. What do you think? I also think the second to last looks like a spine.

Here's a bit clearer photo of my dress. It's my favorite holiday dress. I love the huge collar and exposed zipper down the back. I can't believe it's from Target. It's way better made than I would expect. This photo is pre christmas haircut, so excuse the in the eyes bangs.

TtV

I went swimming with my cousin the other day, which was lovely even though we both got rather burnt. We didn't realize how long we'd been floating on air mattresses out in the middle of the lake until it was too late. Afterwards, we went to the grocery store, got some bagels, and climbed up this giant rock for a picnic. The road actually used to split and go around this rock, but they moved the road a couple years ago.

shirt - pacsun, shorts - diy cutoffs, bikini - victoria's secret, shoes - random gladiator's, purse - mom's (vintage coach)

These shorts were cutoffs already, ones I made a couple years ago in a rest stop parking lot because I was terribly hot, but they were longer and I decided I needed something shorter. So I hacked them off a bit more and now I think they're perfect for really hot days. The shirt is an XXL pocket tee and I think it's the perfect thing to wear over a bathing suit.

Started messing with Through the Viewfinder photography the other day, which is where you take a picture with one camera (usually a digital camera) through the viewfinder of another (usually a TLR). I was taking photos with my digital camera through the viewfinder of the Yashica and I think they turned out pretty cool, if not exactly what most people are going for with this style of photography.

Sandblast Day 2

Sunday less of my friends were hanging out at Sandblast, but Tommy did come by and we explored a little down by the river. I had to leave a little early (obviously not early enough) to go to the No Doubt concert.

I've really been liking red lipstick lately. I'm not sure why, usually I'm more about heavy eyeliner, but nice red lips are just about my favorite thing ever these days. I like it when it's perfect, and I also like it when it's a little messy, and I love using stains that make it look like you've been eating strawberries or popsicles all day. In this picture I'm wearing an "Illuminating Lip Lacquer" by Physician's Formula in "Retro Red." It's sort of like a gloss, except pretty long-wearing and highly pigmented, but it doesn't dry out your lips like some long-wearing lip colors do. Also, it's shiny all on it's own, so you don't need a second gloss on top of it.

I took some photos with the Yashica while I was at Sandblast. I'm starting to like using it a little more, although I wish my lenses from the Minolta worked with it as well. But I'm starting to like the style of light meter it uses, which I used to hate, because you don't have to turn the camera on or off, just press a button to check the exposure. I'll definitely put those up when I get the film developed.

I finally took good pictures while wearing this dress! Oh man, it's like my favorite dress ever. It's soooo nineties, with the small floral and the short skirt and it's just perfect. The princess seams and lacing in the back make it fit so well and the skirt is wonderfully full. Which, as I've mentioned before, is a hazard on windy days, but it twirls so perfectly. I want to go swing dancing in this dress, except I don't know how to swing dance.

Photo 2

So I finally got around to scanning my pictures from my photo 2 class last quarter. I don't know why it took me so long, it was about halfway through this quarter before I even remembered to go pick them up from the photo lab and now here it is, the quarter almost over and I'm finally scanning them. And I know they really aren't related to fashion or anything, but I thought you might enjoy them.

Assignment One:
didn't scan because they're terrible. I was stuck in Duvall when it flooded with only color film and tried to print the color film in black and white which resulted in boring, flat pictures with no contrast. Eventually I'll probably get them printed in color and show them to you.

Assignment Two:
focus on blacks/dark tones
(antique typewriter)

focus on whites/light tones
(taken while snowshoeing in the mountains)

widest range of tones possible
(sign on the path while snowshoeing "Snoqualmie Pass" with the "p" worn off)

Assignment Three:
time & memory
(old truck in the woods)

(goatshed at my old house)

(fallen down barn and still standing but old shed)

Assignment Four:
image altered at the print level
(photo of newly built townhouses printed over photo of the woods around my house)

image altered at the negative level
(three negatives of me sewn together)

image altered in the camera
(double exposure of my friend in the car beside me and traffic out the window, my least favorite of this group)

image created without a camera
(van dyke print of cheesecloth, kale leaves, and bamboo leaves)

(cyanotype of a silk scarf and a chinese bone necklace that my dad gave to my mom)

(cyanotype of cheesecloth, a washer, and a twig)

Final Project:
photos of roadside memorials

I would love to hear your feedback on these. Some of my work from this class I am very happy with and some I feel that I didn't push myself hard enough to get to something interesting. I sort of feel like I did better work creatively in photo 1, and was just a little bit better technically in photo 2. I wish I'd pushed myself harder and devoted more time to the class. Oh, and like last time, my scanner washed out some of the more subtle tones, in none of them do they simply fade off the edge into the paper like that. Also, fiber paper attracts dust like crazy which can be rather annoying on the darker photos.
