lighting fires at school....not a pyro, it's for a class

shirt - thrifted gramicci, skirt - secondhand, tights - dkny, flats - target

I wore this today at school. There's nothing very exciting about it, although I'm really liking how I've been wearing jeans less often. This blog is serving it's purpose of forcing me to dress better. Yay! I was super stoked this morning when I found my case full of cassette tapes and actually had something to listen to on the way to school. (My mp3 player is dead, the only radio station I listen to, KEXP, is having a pledge drive, and I don't have a cd player in my car.) I ended up listening to the first mixtape Justina ever made for me, back in freshman year. It was my christmas present and she had no idea what I listened to (crap back then) but she made a really good mixtape all the same. And it has held up surprisingly well. At least half the bands on it I still listen to and like, and the other half are all funny or nostalgic now. I also fired my first piece for ceramics class yesterday. It was a raku piece, so we got to do it outside. Raku is awesome. It's definitely one of my favorite techniques because it's so unpredictable. You never know how the glazes will turn out. I also love that charcoal black the bare clay turns. So pretty!

cha-ching

coat - gap, cardigan - thrifted, tee - pacsun, pants - gap, shoes - pf flyers, pewter bird necklace - vintage, scarf - mom's, bag - mom's

This was another work/school outfit. With colder weather, I'm definitely definitely dressing better, as I predicted. I got this coat several years ago and don't wear it very often, but I'm not sure why. It has a good shape, has a nice collar detail, fairly warm, and has a pretty lining. I love this necklace. A friend of my family's gave it to me years ago and unfortunately two of the little birds' tails have broken off. I still love it. I've started carrying this bag more because it fits all my school stuff; watercolor paints and paper, lunch, books, etc. And I stole the scarf I'm wearing in my hair from my mom. It's long and fairly thin so I just wrapped it around twice and tied it in the back.

I got paid yesterday, so who wants to go shopping with me? Haha, actually this paycheck is earmarked for school stuff, but the next one is totally going to be a shopping spree.

class sched: watercolor, darkroom, ceramics

coat - old navy

Well, I've had my first week of school now. I only have classes two days a week and I'm only taking art classes this quarter. This should be fun. My day is rather long, especially on Tuesdays, when I have to go to work right after school so I'm out of the house from about 8:30 am to 9:30 pm. I think I'll survive though.

tee - delia's, sweater - thrifted uniqlo, jeans - pacsun, shoes - pf flyers, necklace - gift from ghana

This is one of my favorite necklaces. I have some family from Ghana and they gave me this necklace. The beads are swirled red and white glass and feel super cold when you put it on but warm up to your body temperature and feels really nice after awhile. I think I need to cut my bangs again. They're all in my eyes again.

almost done!

Well I think I'm going to skip over some older pictures I haven't posted yet because I want to post some from today! I will get to the Sasquatch (and maybe some others) ones eventually, but I just haven't wanted to deal with them.

So today was my last day of my drawing class and I felt like dressing tight. The class was really fantastic and the teacher was amazing. He was really cool and we talked about movies and books and, of course, art a lot. I still have my math and psych finals on Wednesday, but I did get my whole psych project done (despite my partner flaking out on me three days before it was due). So I'm feeling good right now.

dress - target, tights - target, shoes - converse

I really like this dress, even though it's a little big. I bought it to be a mod witch for halloween a couple years ago (my friends were a mod cat and a mod vampire) and haven't really worn it since. Justina borrowed it when we went clubbing for our our friend Nicole's birthday awhile ago and just gave it back to me recently.

This is our greenhouse and it's pretty awesome. We have a huge number of green tomatoes on the plants and I am STOKED for them to get ripe. Nothing better than tomatoes right from the garden. I love how tomato plants smell as much like tomatoes as the tomatoes themselves.

I like hanging out in the greenhouse and watering the plants and taking care of them. It's nice.

These tights are such a great color. I love them.

I found them new in the package at Value Village, but they're from Target. I actually really like Target tights. They're pretty opaque for cheap tights.

The garden is so pretty!

homework in the park

I've been spending a lot of time in parks lately, apparently. Couple weeks ago, Amanda and I went to the park in town to work on homework. We didn't get a whole lot of work done, but it was sunny and pleasant.

We blew and made wishes on dandelions.

And made daisy chains.

And I danced in the grass like the hippie I am.

and.......I'm back!

The quarter is over and I am so relieved. I think I did alright in all my classes, so that's good. Really, I am just ecstatic to have a little time to NOT worry about school. In fact, I think I may have even figured out where I'll be going after I finish up at the community college I'm currently going to.

But enough about THAT. I really haven't been putting that much effort into my clothes for the last...er, two weeks. All that study for finals, and I had to spend so much time in the darkroom working on my final project. Anyways, I've been wearing some variation of this outfit pretty often.

sweatshirt - american apparel & american eagle, tee - pacsun, jeans - pacsun

It's my favorite lazy outfit. I like the double sweatshirts to keep me warm, and I have so many different colors of the same v-neck tee that the outfit is infinitely repeatable.

In fact, I wore a variation of this outfit today, hanging out with my friends. We went to Fred Meyer so my Justina could pick up a dvd of Role Models (such a good movie, we saw it together in theater, love paul rudd) and then went to Pickle Time, an awesome little burger joint in my town. We went back to my house, our friend Shane came over, and we watched the movie. (Amanda had to go home early though because she had to open at work in the morning.)

sweatshirt - target, tee - pacsun, jeans - pacsun

I have a few other unexciting outfits I snapped pictures of in the last two weeks. This one features a shirt I made last year. It's my own little political shirt, which I wore to support Obama throughout the primary process and election. Fun stuff yo.

shirt - stenciled by me

If you can't read it, it says "change we can believe in." I liked this shirt because it wasn't overtly political (I could get away with wearing it at work), but fun when people got it. Hey, check out this weird picture! I think I blinked as it took it.

It kinda creeps me out, like a lot. ha. And this, well this is the epitome of laziness. What can I say, I was taking a rare break from studying.

And finally, I did wear one cute outfit, for my final critique in photography.

sweater - uniqlo, shirt - target, jeans - pacsun, shoes - converse, necklace - vintage, silk scarf - thrifted

I found this scarf at the thrift store the same day I got that red flannel shirt and the belt I've been wearing. By the way, I will be posting my work from my photography class this quarter shortly. I need to pick up my final project pictures from school on Monday (and sell back my textbooks, so hopefully I'll have a little a cash) and then I'll have a post dedicated to the whole quarter again. Anyways, I'm glad to be back into blogging and should get much more regular.

busy busy busy

Ack, I can't believe I've been this bad about blogging. Actually I can, because I'm a bum. But it's the week before finals, and I'm trying desperately to finish projects and study for exams. I haven't taken many outfit pictures, but I do have . . . three outfits to show you since my last post.

sweatshirt - super old XXL skinnified by me, jeans - express, shoes - converse

dress - delias, sweater - thrifted, tights - dkny, shoes - converse, umbrella - ebay

sweater - target, jeans - old navy, leggings - target, shoes - vans, scarf - urban outfitters

(Yes, there is SNOW at my house. AGAIN. So freaking sick of it. Driving to school yesterday was hell. It was practically a blizzard, but completely stopped by the time I was heading home. Of course the snow is sticking around at my house. I mean, it's gorgeous, but such a pain. Driving up Novelty Hill was beautiful, but scary when the snow was coming down.)

sleepy, lazy days

shirt - vintage, sweatshirt - american eagle, jeans - pacsun

I totally didn't want to get up and go to school today but I had to. This is a go-to sleepy/lazy outfit. Jeans and a band shirt. This one I bought on ebay about a year ago. Depeche Mode is actually one of my favorite bands. I've been loving KEXP's documentary series "Pop Goes Electronic." They mention Depeche Mode, which of course makes me happy, but I'm especially glad to have found out about one of the originals of the genre, Kraftwerk. I'll definitely be checking them out.

I would have much preferred staying at home in my pjs all day today.

shirt - rolling stones concert tee, long johns

I took this last night after I got out of the shower. I got the shirt a few years ago when my dad took me to a Rolling Stones concert. My cat, Jack, was being really cute and cuddling with me and I took a bunch of pictures of her.

perfectly imperfect

shirt - thrifted, jeans - express, shoes - converse

This is the shirt I bought yesterday at the thrift store. As I said, it's a little boys shirt which fit me perfectly, as long as I'm ok with 3/4 length sleeves instead of full length ones. I'm really happy with this shirt. I'll definitely be looking for more flannel in the little boys section. This one was only $2.

I'm working on a photography project with the Holga right now. It's my first time shooting medium format and so far I love it. The toy-ness of the camera is so much fun too. I love shooting with a piece of crap. Ha.
